As a fashion consultant, my job is to help people learn how to dress for their body type and what looks best on them. But, we all have our own signature style that comes through. Some of us know what our signature look is at a young age and some develop it later in life. Here are some tips to help you find your signature look.
Accentuate your best assets. What is your favorite feature of your body? It can be long legs, flat stomach, muscular arms, nice booty or even your boobs! What ever it is, dress to show it off. One of my personal motto's is, if you've got it flaunt it!
Figure out your signature accessory. About 10 years ago I started wearing big earrings to make my ears look smaller. So my signature accessory that I always wear is big, statement earrings. Some women love pearls, so they wear either a pearl necklace, bracelet and/or earrings. If you haven't found your signature accessory yet, don't be afraid to experiment. Try on different jewelry pieces that you've never tried before.
Find your style muse. A style muse is someone who's personal style you admire. You can find it in a celebrity, a movie, a culture or a fashion designer. I love the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn. Even though the movie was made in 1960, the pieces she wore in the film are timeless and classy. I also love the fashion look of the Indian culture, the bright colors with gold are gorgeous. Like Breakfast at Tiffany's and India, I wear a lot of classy pieces with a colorful twist.
Find out what colors look good on you. Everyone has a color that makes them look absolutely gorgeous and we also have colors that make us look washed out. Figure out your skins undertone and play it up. There are several ways to find your undertone. First, look at your veins on your wrist. Do they look blue or green? If they are blue you have a cool undertone. If they are green you have a warm undertone. Cool toned women look better in blues, greens, pinks, and purples. While warm toned women look better in yellows, reds, oranges, and browns. To read more on finding your color check out Style Caster.
Make sure your clothes fit. A lot of women make the mistake of wearing the wrong size clothing. Either, they wear them too loose or they are skin tight. Either way is extremely unflattering. You don't want to look like you are wearing men's jeans out and you don't want to look like a biscuit popping out of a can. Also when it comes to length of pants or tops you don't want to go too short or too long. Don't be afraid to go to a tailor.
NO you definitely don't want to look like a biscuit popping out of a can!! I laughed out loud at that!! And that was an amazing tip about the veins... I never knew that! Loved this post :)
