Kentucky Derby

Kentucky Derby by summeredmonds featuring pink shoes On the east coast everyone has planned for Coachella and other music festivals but here in Kentucky we are planning our outfits for the Kentucky derby. Anyone who is anyone from the Bluegrass state attends the derby. Honestly I am not going this year, it would be impossible for me to fight my way through the crowds of people with my two kids. But if I were going, this is something like I would wear. I love the rose print and earrings on this dress, after all the race is called 'run for the roses'. I am not a hat person, but you would be disgraced to not wear an oversized floppy hat to the most exciting 3 minutes in sports.  Enjoy your mint juleps ladies and gents!

Etiquette for Adults Part Deux

This is the second and last part in the series, Etiquette for adults. In case you missed it, here is the first part in Etiquette for Adults . Some of us are in severe need in a crash course in manners, so here are 4 more rules every modern grown up should follow. Learn the appropriate times for swearing.  Having a filthy mouth is not a badge of honor. But let's face it, in today's culture everyone curses. When I am around a certain group of friends we swear more than a group of drunken bikers. But any other time I chose my words very cautiously. I know whom it is appropriate to curse in  front of and who it's not. It's never appropriate to curse in public, around children or the elderly, at work, school, church, funerals, weddings. So only use swear words in the privacy of your home, or the home of other fowl mouthed people. Tip your waitress.  A good friend of mine that I've known since childhood, never tips her waitress. After many embarrassing lunch dates

I'm sure you've had one of those days where nothing seems to go right and it was such a gloomy rainy day sooooooooo I divulged into some retail therapy. I treated myself to some Sephora online shopping

What i'm lovin' now: Block Heels

Block Heels by summeredmonds featuring coach shoes So many trends from the 90's are coming back, crop tops, overalls, and now block heels. Everyone who grew up as a kid in the 90's will remember when block heels with platforms were huge, think Spice Girls and Beverly Hills 90210. Needless to say this is one trend I was very excited to see these come back. I was too young in the 90's to wear heels like this, so now at the age of 26 you bet I will be sporting a pair. My favorite pair is clear/pink wooden heels from Jeffery Campbell by NastyGal(top row, center).  What's your tak e on block heels?

My Daily Makeup Routine

These are the cosmetics I use on my face everyday when I do my makeup. Of course, I love to try new products so sometimes these items change but this is what I've been using for the past 2 months. Most of these items are easy to find in your local drugstore. Here are my cast of characters. First up is my foundation, I use Merle Norman Total Finish in Delicate Beige. This was the very first foundation I ever used and I've tried almost every brand out there and I always go back to this. It covers every flaw and makes my skin look natural. It's a little tricky to use when you first apply it, you have to dip your sponge in water and then apply it or it will look very thick and caky. I would recommend anyone to try this at your local Merle Norman. Here is my bronzer, I use Beige Pearl in Mineral Glow Pearls by Physicians Formula. I've always been a big fan of Physicians Formula bronzers and blushes. This bronzer makes my skin look like I have a natural s

Style Icon Series: The Olsen Twins

I think all of my fellow 90's kids feel like we grew up with the Olsen twins. I used to watch Full House every Friday night. One year my cousin and I spent our whole summer vacation watching Mary Kate and Ashley's  My First Video .  They soon blossomed into beautiful, stylish young women. Many fashion magazines coined the term  bohemian-bourgeois to describe their look . In 2007 they  launched the Elizabeth and James clothing line which I absoutly adore. They have graced the covers of many fashion magazines(love the vogue covers) and have made a huge impact in the fashion world. These are my all time favorite looks from the girls. Our career is a dream. I mean, we get to act, travel around the world, and meet cool people. What's not to love!- Mary-Kate Olsen  "I don't have to be a pretty face. I've done that, but now it's important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don't like to be the center of attention anymore

Matching Nails and Lips

Thanks to all my subscribers and readers, you are the best! I am so excited to be doing my very first giveaway this week, I will be announcing it this week so check back and make sure to enter. Last night I was planning on doing my nails, and I became extremely frustrated because I am very tired of all the colors that I have(shopping trip ahead!). I had been painting my nails nude the past little while to match my lip color. If you read my blog, then you know that I am in love with Baby Lips by Maybelline in Pink Punch. I recently have discovered a nail polish brand called LA Colors. It's only $1 a bottle! It's just as good quality as Essie or Opi.  S

Happy Easter

Just a quick line to wish everyone a very Happy Easter. I hope everyone has a wonderful day filled with chocolate bunnys and of course pastel eggs! The kids loved waking up to a visit from the easter bunny! Have a wonderful day! Xo  Summer

H&M for kids

Both of my sons are very fashion forward. With that being said, before I had children I had no idea little boys are so concerned with their appearance. Or maybe they took after us, after all my husband and I put a lot of thought into what we wear. My oldest son Jackson is the worst. If he doesn't like what outfit I pick out for him, he makes sure to let me know. Jameson is the almost as bad, he has to have his hair fixed every time we leave the house.  Like every other american, I love h&m. There clothes and accessories are super chic and very affordable. It wasn't until last week when I received an H&M catalog in the mail that I realized they sold little boys clothing(be still my beating heart). Like everything else from H&M, its super affordable(cha-ching)!  These are my favorite looks for the spring collection for boys.

Style Icon Series: Victoria Beckham

After my Sophia Loren post, I realized I have so many different style icons. So I decided to do a series on the subject where I will do a post every week on a famous person that I consider to be my personal style icon. This week, Victoria Beckham. When I was in 5th grade, I was a huge Spice Girls fan. That year on Halloween, myself and 4 of my friends decided to dress as the Spice Girls. I was appointed to be Posh spice(Victoria Beckham) because I was the one that looked mostly like her and well, I've always been sort of a snob. That day, marked a life long love of Victoria Beckham. I've always idolized her looks. Now, she has her own super successful fashion line ( shop here ) so you can get her look too. And let's all admit it ladies, we all are a little envious to the fact that she's married to the gorgeous David Beckham.  Here are my favorite recent looks from Mrs. Beckham,  "If you haven't got it. Fake it! Too short? Wear big high heels,
